Woman March in Dili Not Against Trump Administration

DILI – The global movement in over 60 countries around the world is to protest or against Donal Trump administration, but except the woman march in Dili is how show their solidarity around the world, with freedom, with the right of all people from all background, from all religions, races, sexual orientation, immigrants.

Donald John Trump was inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States on Friday, ushering in a new and more unpredictable era in which he vowed to shatter the established order and restore American greatness.

Dili "Women's March" event starts on Saturday 21 January in Cristo Rei with the participation of many women from around the world. They are Timorese, Mexican, Australian, New Zealander, Canadian, South African.

One of US citizen who works in Dili Susan Marx said, the event it may started related to event in the United States around in the operation.

“Our event and our march here in Dili is not suppose to be all American politics,” Susan told Timor Post in the Cristo Rei, Saturday (21/01).  

“And so today we are marching not against the Trump administration in necessarily  or against any person rather we are marching to show solidarity around the world, with freedom, with the right of all people from all background, from all religions, races, sexual orientation, immigrants,” she said.

“We are not marching against Trump administration. Not at all,”.

She added, the march in Washington D.C specifically, definitely has a march stronger linked to the Trump administration. “But for us here we basically used as a platform the global movement to be able to show our solidarity as all people living in Timor – Leste expected,”.

Regarding to what kind of Trump strategic foreign policy, Susan stated that a lot of people are not yet sure about how he will implementing his foreign policies. “So I think it’s remain to be seen because a lot of things are been set during the campaign, but no body knows whether in the end that going to be policies that implemented,”.

“I think it will depend on overall what his policies towards Asia. I think it’s depend on what his policies are towards China,”.

“One of his prioritize is his foreign relation. So interm of Timor – Leste, I think it’s remain to be seen exactly what is the impact might be, but hopefully there is no… we can hope that there is no cut some American foreign assistance here,”.

The expectation of Trump and the constitution the human right Susan think the important thing that have to remember is that the institution from the United  States are very strong, the constitution is very clear. “I would hope that any president in any elected and any appointed officially will do his or her atmosphere to up hold the right of all Americans. And that is really my hope that in the end of the system that will protect all the people,”.

 Meanwhile, the US Ambassador Karen Clark Stanton was sworn in as Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste on December 17, 2014 and presented her credentials to President Taur Matan Ruak on January 16, 2015.

Related to her diplomatic mission here in Timor – Leste, Stanton is still awaiting a decision from president Donald Trump.

“I will stay until the president nominate a replacement. I expect that sometime this year. But I do not know yet well,” Stanton told Timor Post in Timor Plaza, Saturday (21/01).   

Stanton said, in the United States right position is part of foreign policy will consistance. She would not expect there is no a lot of change. Probably change a little bit but generally she speaking from one administration to the other. The United States will always thrive foreign policy to every government.

“The time for empty talk is over,” he added later. “Now arrives the hour for action. Do not allow anyone to tell you it cannot be done.”

He said the inauguration represented not just the peaceful transfer of power from one party to another. “We are transferring power from Washington, D.C., and giving it back to you the people,” he said.

“For too long,” he added, “a small group in our nation’s capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost. Washington flourished, but the people did not share in its wealth. Politicians prospered, but the jobs left and the factories closed. The establishment protected itself but not the citizens of our country. Their victories have not been your victories. Their triumphs have not been your triumphs.”

He vowed to reverse that trend and make America first. “The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer.” (oki)
