Mouth accepts,
heart refuses
President of the Republic Francisco Guterres Lu Olo. |
Every
person born has a mouth. The mouth is one part of the human body. The mouth has
its own function that is different from other bodily functions. There is no
other body part that can replace the function of the mouth other than the mouth
itself. The mouth has special roles and advantages.
The main
function of the mouth is the entrance of food and drinks into the body so the
body is healthy and strong. Eat and drink every day as needed. In addition, the
mouth also has a main function in speaking. Talk anywhere, anytime, and with
anyone. Speaking becomes a tool of communication between people and everyday
tools of social interaction as social beings.
The mouth
used to talk is closely related to the heart and mind. This overflow from the
heart and mind comes out in the form of words or words. Mouth can also
represent an arrogant heart or a humble heart. These sayings or words are of a
constructive nature and some are of a dropping nature. Some are sweet and some
are bitter.
With this
in mind, let us try to examine the mouths of politicians in Timor-Leste
relating to the political deadlock that has occurred since 2017 until now there
has been no solution.
On February
10, 2020, President Lu Olo, called on all political parties that have seats in
the National Parliament to carry out political movements to provide a good
solutions to the current political situation. The CNRT party as one of the
largest political parties in Timor-Leste response immediately by successfully
forming a new coalition with five small parties to form a new government on 22
February.
Six political parties consisting of the CNRT party, Democratic Party,
KHUNTO party, UDT, PUDD and Frenti-Mudansa have signed a coalition deed to form
the Ninth government in the CNRT party office.
"With that, today we have formed a new coalition to provide solutions to the actual situation through forming a new government" CNRT party president Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão through a press conference at the CNRT party office, Bairro Grilos, Dili Saturday, February 22, 2020.
"We will stop the political impasse and we have signed the deed. We believe that these 34 seats will guarantee the stability of the new government, " Xanana said.
This solution has received a response full
of threats from President Lu Olo. Initially he asked the political parties to
form a new coalition but his heart refused the presence of this coalition that
must think carefully if they want to re-nominate nine cabinet members who are
still rejected inauguration since June 2018.
"The CNRT is thinking carefully if it wants to re-nominate a list of nine people," President Lu Olo told reporters at the new building of Finance Minister's office at Aitarak-Laran in Dili, Monday 24 February 2020.
"Everyone already knows that the President of the Republic has not installed them. Finally, because only these people crossed over, rejecting the 2020 state budget, a budget for all the people, making the government and the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak just like this. Therefore to re-nominate the list of nine people, the CNRT or parties think carefully! Think carefully! I repeated again, thinking carefully ".
Many
commentators who responded to President Lu Olo's statement would only extend
this political impasse in Timor-Leste.
Although there
has been no official statement from the new coalition that whether they will
continue to put nine cabinet candidates on their list or not, according to CNRT
party president Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão's statement through GRANDE INTERVISTA on
GMNTV on 7 February 2020 that his party will not replacing people who are still
pending because this is about the principles and credibility of his party.
The results of
the meeting of the national leaders in the last few weeks have decided and
agreed on the fresh election as the last solution to stop this political
impasse and provide opportunities for political parties to form a new coalition
to form a new government. But the answer from President Lu Olo himself was
already contradictory to his statement on 10 February.
And earlier on
February 21, President Lu Olo gladly stated that he would accept and support a
new coalition to form a new government in order to stop the political impasse
but on February 24 his heart refused.

Xanana Gusmão succeeded in forming a new coalition to form a new government
By Raimundos Oki
Dili, Timor-Leste - One of the largest party in Timor-Leste, the National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction (CNRT) party led by Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, has succeeded in forming a new coalition to form a new government after the coalition government broke up at the end of 2019.
While the Revolutionary Front for an Independent Timor-Leste (FRETILIN) party and the Popular Liberation Party (PLP) are rumored to be in opposition in the Ninth Government.
Six political parties consisting of the CNRT party, Democratic Party, KHUNTO party, UDT, PUDD and Frenti-Mudansa have signed a coalition deed to form the Ninth government in the CNRT party office, today.
"We will stop the political impasse and we have signed the deed. We believe that these 34 seats will guarantee the stability of the new government, "CNRT party president Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão through a press conference at the CNRT party office, Bairro Grilos, Dili Saturday, February 22, 2020.
The signing process was represented by the president and secretary of each party and was also attended by 1996 peace nobel laureate Jose Ramos Horta who is currently the strongest candidate to become the prime minister for the ninth government.
Gusmão added that if this political impasse is left alone, it will bring great destruction to the country's economy, making small communities vulnerable.
The FRETILIN party consists of 23 seats and PLP with 8 seats. So the opposition coalition between the FRETILIN party and the PLP will get 31 seats in the national parliament.
Although these political parties have formed coalitions for a new government but now the final decision is in the hands of the president of the republic that will approve this solution or will announce a second fresh election. According to the plan the President of the Republic will take the final decision at the beginning of March this year.
Previously, on February 10, 2020 President of the Republic Francisco Guterres Lu Olo stated that fresh election as the final resource so he asked political parties who had seats in the national parliament to conduct political movements to be able to provide a good solution to this political impasse.
"With that, today we have formed a new coalition to provide solutions to the actual situation through forming a new government".
The program plan offered by the new coalition that will continue the eighth government program based on the 2030 strategic plan for national development. Give full attention to people in rural areas to improve their lives, guarantee national stability as a determinant factor for national development, continue the process negotiating land and sea boundaries with Indonesia to get a fair solution to the delineation of the border between Timor-Leste and Indonesia and others.
The eighth coalition government called the Majority Alliance Change to Progress (AMP), led by Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak, has been divided apart because the State budget for 2020 has been blocked by the opposition and government parties in January 17, 2020.
The results of the 2020 budget vote which was debated for three days from 15 to 17 January 2020 finally did not qualify because only get 13 valid votes, 15 votes contra and 25 abstentions. The 13 contra MPs indicated that the CNRT party wanted divorce from AMP.
Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak said the situation in the National Parliament had shown State management in difficult situation.
The 2020 state budget proposal which was not ratified in the national Parliament amounts to $ Billion 1,668.
However, Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak said that now he is waiting for all decisions from the President of the Republic on the current situation.
"Now we are waiting for the President of the Republic," PM Taur told reporters at the
national parliament building.
According to him, the decision to announce another election or call political parties to form a new government depends on the decision of the President of the Republic.

Coalition government breaks out in Timor-Leste
Endless political instability continue
By Raimundos OkiDili – Timor-Leste – The eighth coalition government called the Majority Alliance Change to Progress (AMP), led by Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak, has been divided apart because the State budget for 2020 has been blocked by the opposition and government parties.

PM Matan Ruak also asked all people to be calm in order to give leaders the opportunity to find solutions to this situation.
Member of Parliament from the KHUNTO party Olinda Guterres stated that she had voted favorably for the 2020 State budget for national development.
"I'm sorry in the AMP coalition. If I knew it would happen like this, I would not want to join the coalition.
